Developing faith in our Child Within helps re-build a good self-concept and prevent further re-developmental problems. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to ignore good behaviour and to notice mostly the dissociations our child within has learnt to do. Try not to make the mistake of often or constantly scolding and insulting our child within with the parental voice of negative labels such as stupid, mean, shy, etc. Using these parental labels shows that we don't have faith in our child within. It frustrates us and can cause us to re-infect ourselves with low self-esteem, to feel unable to change, to believe the label fits, and to act accordingly. During childhood, despite an angry refusal to accept such labels, being bad (or stupid, mean, a failure, etc..) can seem like a fact of life the child within cannot change without superhuman effort. In a self-fulfilling prophecy, we will give up trying to improve ourselves and will live up to the social role implied by the negative modelling.
