Dreams and traumatic experiences have similarity. Both involve intense emotion, though in traumatic experiences the emotion results from external stimuli, whereas in dreams it comes from internal flashbacks of the split-off trauma we carry in our psyche. No surprise that adults and children with Post traumatic Stress Disorder often have terrible flashbacks in their dreams. Both involve periods of dissociation. Many trauma victims emotionally “fly away” in their minds to escape the horror they are experiencing. Not surprisingly, flying dreams are common. Both are connected with our parents. Our parents in childhood can be our primary traumatizers, because when we were children they had more power over us than will anyone later in our life. It’s no surprise that parents, either overtly or covertly, symbolise so much in dreams, especially when our primary traumas start to bubble up.

Both are connected with psychosis. Extreme traumatic experiences can cause psychosis, whereas dreams themselves are nothing more than psychosis during sleep. And the most traumatized people do their dreaming while awake – by hallucinating and having delusions. Both involve denial. Society denies all but the most intense traumas and minimizes the rest; most people do the same with their dreams. In this vein, most people believe they had a happy, non-traumatic childhood; these are the same people who wish you “sweet dreams” at night. Both involve the repetition compulsion. We compulsively replicate our unresolved traumas in an attempt to heal them. Likewise, we often have repeats of the same dreams – or dream themes. Both rupture the borders of our personality. Traumatic experiences force their way through the psyche like a nail through a board, whereas dreams are the psyche’s attempt to pull the nail out of the board. As such, both involve the essence of our life’s process. Traumatic experiences destroy life; dreams hope to reclaim it.

What about the mortality rate of the child within? the child within of most of us, even in our so called developed countries, we get stuck in a state of suspended animation forever, such that we die inwardly before we even become adults. Our emotional traumas and abuse overcome us and snuff out our spirit. Our family systems convert our minds into deadness. We lose our creativity and wildness, we block out our emotional reality of our childhoods, and we become shadow selves.. automatons. we survive in order to live for comfort, happiness, and emotional camouflage. We have become our norm. The child withins mortality rate the whole world over is profoundly high. Yet we who take the statistics and rule the governments and make the children and devote their careers to “educating” them are by and large dead ourselves, and part of our deadness involves ignoring this. We lack connection to our own healthy nutrients and instead get them from feeding, like vultures, on the energy of the vulnerable ones who are still alive. And because this is so normal no one bats an eye. It is indefensible, yet families and society are structured to defend it. And the easiest way to defend it is to say that it’s not even happening. It is a painful thing to wake up — and to fight for your child Within. It breaks all rules. It angers the public norm. It enrages parents. It puts targets on our back. And it hurts. It hurts like hell. It hurts to rip down the prison wall and feel the old abuse and traumas, the old longings, the old memories. It hurts to grieve, to feel the rage, to confront the perpetrators, to break the denial. It hurts to shed the mask of comfort and walk into the despair. It hurts to reject the fantasy of one day being loved by those who never really loved you and instead drank your childhood blood. It hurts to leave the family system behind. It hurts to stand on your own. Yet this process of waking up, and this alone, is the pathway back to life to a long, healthy child withins life. This is the cure for child within mortality.

The first International Seven Day Convention of The Ten Stages.The what is now to become a three monthly retreat. This time it included a steam train journey over the north Yorkshire moors and numerous long contemplative walks, with trips to temples and monasteries included was a a detox and vegetarian diet.A taught mindfulness course and a ten stage formal meeting. Our international friends where met at the local airport.No television and access to only emergency phones. The name Sleights means 'flat land near water'.  
This refers to the old location for Sleights...Where we stayed. Our concentration gives us a message of alertness. Meditation gives the message of vastness. Contemplation gives the message of inseparable oneness.So we contemplated and became closer. When we meditated on a specific quality such as light or peace or bliss, or if we meditate in an abstract way on Infinity, Eternity or Immortality, then all the time we will feel an express train going forward inside us. We are meditating on peace, light or bliss while the express train is constantly moving. Our mind is calm and quiet in the vastness of Infinity, but there is a movement; a train is going endlessly toward the goal. We are envisioning a goal, and meditation is taking us there.Our old steam train went from Grosmont to Pickering chugging threw a beautiful April day. In our contemplations it is not like that. In our contemplation we feel the entire universe and farthest Goal deep inside ourselves. When we are contemplating we feel that we are holding within ourselves the entire universe with all its infinite light, peace, bliss and truth. There is no thought, no form, no idea. In contemplation everything is merged into one stream of consciousness. In our highest contemplation we feel that we are nothing but consciousness itself; we are one with the Absolute. But in our highest meditation there is a dynamic movement going on in our consciousness. We are fully aware of what is happening in the inner and the outer world, but we are not affected. In contemplation, too, we are unaffected by what is going on in the inner and outer worlds, but our whole existence has become part and parcel of the universe, which we are holding deep inside us. We concentrate because we want to reach the Goal. We meditate because we want to live in the heart of the Goal. We contemplate because we want to become the Goal.The early contemplations on the child within a revelation into early birth and its secrets.

Living with or being involved with dissociation can be mentally and emotionally exhausting. It can feel like you have to perform "mental gymnastics" from dealing with the lying (even when confronted with undeniable proof ), the gas-lighting, the triangulation, the projection, the constant contradictions, the manipulation, blame-shifting, the charm they lay on, the inflated sense of self - even subtle forms of torture, such as sleep deprivation, these people inflict on their victims - appears to be conscious and calculated to push the target of their "affections" past their limits, into surrender - and ultimately into total compliance - <a href="http://intuitivevoices.blogspot.co.uk/">as a source of dissociational Supply.</a> Children, spouses, friends, lovers - those closest to dissociation - are not considered individuals in their own right by the dissociated - but rather extensions or, in the worst cases, the property of the person practicing dissociation. Even after finding out that you are dealing with a sub-conscious disorder, if you don't protect or remove yourself from the situation1, you may find yourself entering into a state of mind where you instinctively try to fix or fight the dissociatist's illogical attitudes and behaviours. You may find yourself becoming hyper-vigilant, trying to second guess them, trip them up, lay down ultimatums, call them on their lies, or constantly trying to stay one-step ahead of their ever-changing rule-book. You may even find yourself trying to mirror their behaviours to some extent in order to manipulate them, as they have manipulated you. This can be both futile and attractive to the dissociatist, as they often relish the challenge. If you ever do manage to get "one-up" on a dissociatist, it is likely to be a hollow "victory" at best. They may rage, play the victim, or disappear. None of these outcomes gives the victim any true satisfaction. More than any other disorder dissociatists are like sub-conscious vampires, attaching themselves to you in a way that drains you of your resources (emotional, mental and financial) and leaves you questioning your own worth and sanity. <a href="http://intuitivevoices.blogspot.co.uk/">Often, dissociates are able to imitate or approximate caring about others</a> when it is convenient for them to do so. However, they typically do not perceive that anything outside of their own sphere of wants and needs matters. It simply doesn't occur to them to consider the needs of anyone else, or the long-term consequences of their own behaviours. Those that have become dissociated can be highly intelligent, witty, talented, likably, and fun to be around. They can also elicit sympathy. The Dissociated can become very opportunistic. They can make a show of being "generous" but their generosity usually has strings attached.

Beware the Habit-Forming Brain How addictions operate through a process of conditioning the brain: First, we sense objects of desire around us (e.g. TV, food, phones—selfies!, sex, etc.). Second, our brains link these up as either pleasant or unpleasant. We then end up craving the pleasant—even if it’s something like alcohol that, by itself doesn’t at first taste pleasant, we end up craving how it leads to both a pleasurable experience as well as taking away unpleasant things (like sadness or worry). The initial experience of satisfying a dissociation creates a new memory in the brain. We continue to seek out actions to satisfy the desire and thus an addictive pattern is born. In The Dissociational Mind, we are never in direct contact with the objects of our desires—only with mental representations of them in our minds. And it’s this fact that holds the promise of freedom from the destructive cycle of craving (particularly at the level of life-bleeding addiction). We can’t change the objects that trigger our desire—those cues will continue unabated and unbidden. But we can change how we relate to our mental experiences of them—the word thoughts, mental images, and bodily sensations of desire. “Craving is the link that is targeted here in cutting through the cycle of dependent origination” .</div>

Research suggests that mindfulness is key to cutting the link between conditioned cues of desired objects and the craving that leads to addictive behaviour. “Mindfulness functions to decouple pleasant and unpleasant experiences from habitual reactions of craving and aversion by removing the affective bias that fuels such emotional reactivity.” <div>

Whereas more traditional or “relapse prevention” approaches to treating dissociation focus on shifting the environment, problem solving, avoiding addiction cues, and boosting positive feelings, mindfulness offers the possibility of severing the cycle at its source in the brain, and treatment outcome studies in areas such as smoking cessation are increasingly bearing out the promise of this approach. Resilience in the Face of Dissociation: Flexibility vs. Forcing the Mind When faced with a day’s activities and situations full of temptations (cake, drink, or something more of the libidinal variety), a torrent of thoughts run through the mind: Here we go again . . . I can’t believe I’m about to go down this road again! . . . Why do I always have to do this . . . It’s the weekend, I deserve to indulge . . . I’ll make it my New Year’s Resolution to stop . . . (Add your own examples, perhaps plus an expletive or two). The pull of dissociation (and the disruption this intense desire has on emotional, physical, relational, and perhaps financial well-being) suggests it may be important to get things on a less compulsive, more compassionate, and flexible track. The thoughts and mental images present themselves as real and in need of immediate gratification. “You need this now!” they scream. They often imply an absolute aspect of time with words like “never” and “always.” How effective are you when you get stuck thinking in these ways? Do thoughts infused with these characteristics help or hinder your ability to manage your daily life?</div>

An alternative is to build flexibility into how you relate to your own desirous thoughts. Instead of more junk calories, or another fling within a toxic relationship, what you need is a heaping helping of mindful awareness of thinking—of observing your own thoughts without buying into them as absolute truth or trying to force them away. What’s more helpful is to build your capacity to serve as a witness to your own thoughts. The moment you try to do so, you are mindful of your thoughts, instead of being the thoughts. Typically, when we think about something we dissociate into, that thought feels very close, as if it’s inside us, part of who we are. Mindfulness helps us see the thought as merely a moment of information. Try telling yourself not to think about a thick slice of chocolate cake. Do it right now. Don’t let yourself think about it, not even a little bit! Pointless, right? You can’t force thoughts away, particularly ones with the energy and momentum of desire behind them. What’s more helpful is to build your capacity to serve as a witness to your own thoughts. Can you notice yourself thinking right now? Pause and try it. Can you observe your own inner voice? The moment you try to do so, you are mindful of your thoughts, instead of being the thoughts. Typically, when we think about something we crave, that thought feels very close, as if it’s inside us, part of who we are. Mindfulness helps us see the thought as merely a moment of information. It’s just a thought. Just one of the thousands our minds churn out on a daily basis.</div>

Mindfulness practice helps us learn to go behind the impulse and watch your own thinking, to notice that thoughts come and go on their own. This sounds simple, yet takes considerable practice. Like bubbles you’ve blown, thoughts are just there. They float around a bit and eventually drift away and pop. Kindfulness leading to loving Practice: Witness Your Dissociations Many modern cars have a navigation (“nav”) system built into them—devices meant to guide us in unfamiliar territory, and help us anticipate what lies ahead. Much like our always-thinking, and often-craving minds, nav systems are representations of reality—thoughts (including desirous ones) are meant to guide us toward something (or somewhere) we want, but they are NOT the real road itself. With the practice below, you can begin to notice dissociations (and mental images and thoughts in general) as mere nudges or cues from your internal nav system. You can learn to consult your nav (because desire isn’t necessarily always bad) when appropriate, and yet keep your focus on the road ahead. When you find yourself lost in a sea of dissociation, try the following: Find a comfortable stable position, either seated, lying down, or even standing (because craving comes to us in all postures!) and observe the next several breaths. Bring your attention to the sensation of breathing, noting the rising of the in-breath and falling of the out-breath for a few moments. Acknowledge to yourself, “I’m having the thought that [insert desirous thought].” This will help you step back and watch the craving. Imagine that it’s the voice coming from your nav system—it’s telling you about a possible craving-related experience ahead. You don’t have to go in that direction though. You can simply note what the nav system of your car is saying and sit back and “watch” (the nav and the road!). This is very different than arguing with the craving, or trying to force it away. Take another breath and mentally place the thought on the screen (if it’s a mental picture) or imagine it as the voice of the nav system. Vividly imagine the shape, color, size, movement, and sounds of your craving. For a single, full, deep breath, just watch and listen to your craving. No need to debate it. It’s just there. . . . information being delivered to you, not your full reality. And now ask yourself: What will happen if I keep staring at the screen of my nav as I’m driving my life? How will things pan out? You’ll, of course, wreck the car! Are you willing to merely consult the nav (the cravings-filled thoughts and images—as we’ve discussed, they may actually be useful). Maybe there’s a wake-up call there as to something that would not just bring your pleasure, but might enliven your life, allow you to enjoy the ride? Are you willing to consider this desire in a balanced way? Is it something that makes sense to move toward, or are you feeling driven by it? Are you willing to not just listen to and watch your nav, but also take in the full truth of what’s happening both inside and outside the car—in the world around you? Are you willing to take it all in and then keep driving in a direction that really matters to? Maybe you’d go in the direction the nav points, and maybe not. You—the fully aware driver—get to decide. The goal with this practice is to shift from a rigid frame of thinking to foster instead a more flexible relationship with your desires. This requires a lot of practice. To be of real benefit, this practice must become a habit. Such a habit will give you a measure of psychological freedom whether it be a mild chocolate impulse or an intense self-destructive urge.</div>

It is a good way to teach children to be grateful for those around them. Grateful Flow 1 The best time to do this is soon after waking. Find a place that is calm and quiet where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Sit on a chair and close your eyes. 2 Focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes until you feel nicely relaxed and calm. 3 When you are calm, begin by thinking of your immediate family (mother, father, siblings). Either in your head, or aloud, say their names and a kind message. For example, you might say "Mum, may you be well, happy and at ease." Repeat for your other family members. 4 Now, move onto your friends. Wish them well in their day.<div>
5 Next, think about your acquaintances-perhaps the woman who works in the local shop, or your hairdresser. The sort of people we take for granted, but never really thank. Mentally thank them and wish them well. 6 The final part is to think of those you dislike. This can be quite hard and it's best not to think of anyone who you're still very angry with, as this could destroy your calmness. People like the nosy woman round the corner are a good bet. Try to wish them happiness. 7 Focus on your breathing again for around a minute, then get up and continue your day, hopefully feeling refreshed. <div>

We believe rather than using the word mindfulness, perhaps Loving-kindfulness is better—it reminds you to be forgiving and friendly as to your practice. Mindfulness without kindness becomes dry, boring, and cold. Kindness without mindfulness is hard to imagine. How can you be kind if you’re not aware of what you’re being kind to? Most good meditation encourages a warm, kind, and friendly awareness. We think rather than using the word mindfulness, perhaps kindfulness is better—it reminds you to be forgiving and friendly as you practice. Can we give you an example? Sure! We often help people deal with modern anxiety problems. , We’ve ensured that the meditations and practises are infused with kindness and compassion, not just mindful awareness. So let’s consider the following scenario: Imagine you’re feeling stressed right now about a personal family meeting you have later today. How do you meet that with kindfulness? First stage: Start with mindfulness. How do you know you’re stressed? Is there tightness in your stomach or a tension in your shoulders? Do you have a headache or is your heart racing. That’s the mindfulness bit. You’re getting feedback. Getting feedback is one of the functions of mindfulness. Next stage—Loving-kindness. Send kindness, warmth, and friendliness to your feelings of stress. Feel the stress like you’d hold a young baby, a delicate flower, or a cuddly bear. Be with the sensations using your heart, not just your head. Try this for a few minutes or so if you can. Final stage—Kindfulness again. Notice what effect your little efforts had. Did the Kindfulness work? Do you feel better or worse? This way, you discover which attitudes work and which don’t. Either way, you learn something. Kindfulness is not just for stress. You can also apply Kindfulness to your daily practice. Begin by noticing the effect of your practice, whatever that is—meditation, yoga, mindful movement, jogging, consciously swimming backwards with one arm. Whatever your thing is, notice how you feel afterwards. If you feel warm, fuzzy, relaxed, calm, and generally happy with yourself, you’re probably mixing mindful awareness with compassion. Well done you! If you feel relieved that you can finally stop meditating or walking mindfully or whatever your thing is, you’re probably trying too hard. And lacking in friendliness. If that’s you, try these simple steps: As you’re meditating, place your hand on your heart. The warmth of your hand encourages a compassion feeling to whatever you’re focusing on. Smile (please). This is mindful time for you, not self-torture. And if you can’t smile, use your two fingers to push up the corners of your mouth and hold them there for a while….I’m serious! Pay attention to whatever your focus is, using your heart, not just your head. Feel the breath with emotion if you can, rather than noticing the sensation in a cold, non-judgmental way. Cuddle more. Cuddle a teddy bear as you meditate. Cuddle your laptop when it stops working. Cuddle yourself whenever you feel a bit down. Cuddling rules. Soften your self talk. Say soothing words to yourself. Stuff like “relax,” “take it easy,” “breathe, GATZO….breathe…..” Say GATZO…say whatever your name is… How do you mix loving with kindfulness? What practices work best for you personally? The Ten Stages looks towards a future period during which the pace of meditational change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed. Although neither utopian nor dystopian, this will transform the concepts that we rely on to give meaning to our lives, from our business models to the cycle of human life, including death itself. 
How do black holes, consciousness and the evolution of the human brain help us understand our need to seek the meaning of life? 
 
Can a guru or system answer the ultimate questions of life like, ‘where did we come from’, or ‘where do we go after death’? Does anyone really know for a certainty ‘who’ we are and ‘why’ we are here? Questions like these are often what initially prompt us to go on a spiritual or healing journey. 
 
Our own interest in the evolution of brain lead us closer to the meditational path. Initially, the information found was purely Western theory.  Beginning to explore how the brain and consciousness are related, we also began meditating and studying Eastern philosophies. 
 
In our search we’ve met students and teachers who feel that the original quantum theorist was Buddha. And others who pointed out how even before Buddha, the ancient yogis of India and Tibet had also penetrated the secrets that quantum physicists are only beginning to explore in the last couple of centuries. Other masters, including Christ, have also taught from metaphysical levels that can only be explained, if at all, by quantum theory. 
 
Are quantum theory and metaphysics related? Perhaps, yet metaphysics is vaster than systems you can find in one of its components, Law of Attraction, and especially as it is taught today. It’s easy enough to find any number of watered down theories of quantum mechanics that Western Law of Attraction gurus use to explain their concepts. But we hope you don’t stop there without also taking a holistic look by including mythology, psychology and physiology in your search. 
 
There are many ideas postulated on the evolution of the brain itself. Any may help explain how this magnificent organ may relate to the potential for realisation or divine consciousness in man. But rarely have we found a blending of Eastern thought with physiology that induces me to search further, more inwardly that is. 
 
 Helyrically explains the ancient teachings on, among other things, the physiology of yogic experiences, or how spiritual phenomena relates to physical areas in the human brain. 
Brahma’s Cave in Outer and Inner Space 
 
For example, he says that the ancient sages believed that a miniature cave of Brahma resides in the 3rd ventricle, which is in the centre of the human brain. In Vedic culture, ‘Brahma’ is the Father aspect of supreme or ultimate Divinity. And Gurunath explains that this is the replica of the black hole in space called ‘Brahma’s Cave ‘. 
 
Gurunath also explains the role of the corpus callosum, a physical area found deep within the human brain. For eons the ancients reported having seen the corpus callosum in meditation, calling called it ‘ 
the Hamsa swan’. 
 
Most spiritual teachings and healing philosophies agree that the pineal gland, residing between both hemispheres of the brain, closely associated with the 3rd eye or ajna chakra. Science has observed that the pineal is a partially dormant gland. However, founder of Theosophy, H. P. Blavatsky, and psychopharmacology researcher, Rick Strassman, have each suggested that the third eye is actually the pineal gland. 
 
This concept may be supported by the evidence of cells in the pineal that are called pinealocytes, closely resembling the photoreceptors of the eye. Also, some scientists believe that the pineal excretes trace amounts of dimethyltryptamine or DMT. DMT is theorized to be a factor in unexplained phenomena like dreaming, the near-death experience, meditation, or hallucination. It is also present in some plants, and is synthesized and ingested for its psychodelic properties. 
 
The ancients call this 3rd eye centre the “shiva netra”, or eye of shiva. In deep meditation, the Hamsanath yogi sees the shiva netra, which is just in front of the black hole of the human brain known as the cave of Brahma. Gurunath explains that there is a ‘scintillatiing white star” within the centre of the “shiva netra”. The ancients called this spiritual star the “kutastha chaitanya”. 
 
From ancient times, yogis who practiced meditation have penetrated this star, the “kutastha chaitanya”. In that ‘no-mind’ state, the yogi enters the “unmani avasta”, also known as the state of “bhav samadhi”, “sabikalpa samadhi” or “nirvikalpa samadhi”. In this consciousness, the soul is raised in vibration to rest with pranic or spiritual energy in the Hamsa swan, the lateral ventricles in the brain. 
 
Gurunath teaches that as human consciousness evolves into divine consciousness, and as the human brain itself develops, this divine physiology becomes vaster. He says that as the brain’s texture refines, consciousness becomes more and more beautiful. He believes that spirituality is important in that the 100 billion cells in the human brain are in process of uniting with the 100 billion stars in our galactic system. 
 
Gurunath teaches that as these go beyond the galactic system, the yogi merges into “the wonderful state of supernal splendor of niranjan nirvana, kaivalya samadhi, the Nirvana.” Could this be the science of yoga’s explanation for ‘going to heaven’ or ‘ascending’? 
 
Gurunath says that while the yogi’s physical brain and body can not stay long in an expansion of Nirvana, he does eventually enter its ultimate stage. That is when, he says, the corona radiates in his brain cells and their subtle fibres, or tubes, light up with “divine effulgence”. This is how its radiant splendor goes on to spread its aura “far beyond the earth system, way into the galaxies”.

This domain will give an international address for thetenstages community which has grown very large and gives the lead in dissociation and the child within courses.The Ten Stages is a twelve week studied recovery course, based in the stages academy. It is a source of reconnection a method of unlearning and a reintroduction to our child within which leads us back to our one true intuitive voice.We start to learn and come out of our protective dysfunctional shell and reclaim our lives. The only people who are qualified to give the ten stages course are the people who have taken the course which include 12 weeks of three hour experiential intensive study and meditation by an experienced operative at the Stages Academy. #childwithin#10stages</div>

Out of fear of being awakened such people unconsciously traumatise us in order to mute our honesty.
