Moving forward in the ten stages is difficult, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not moving forward. To move forward is to heal. To heal is to become more independent. And to become more independent is to leave one’s parents, and the worst of their patterns, behind. This feels like being an abandoned child. And there is no greater terror than feeling like a helpless, powerless, vulnerable infant at the mercy of the world and the ten stages is asking you to contact and connect to our child hidden within.

We spend our lives carefully planning and manoeuvring ways to avoid feeling abandoned. We block our healing process at every turn in the road by dissociating. We disappear into dissociating addictions, relationships, parenthood, and other child within-numbing paths of a thousand varieties of dissociation. We build false selves to fool ourselves into thinking we are happy and comfortable, but we never realise that the beams propping up their façades are rotten with the misery of unresolved childhood traumas. Thus we succumb to our childhood terrors, but we cannot outrun them.

Recovery beckons us to heal. Recovery beckons us to grow. Recovery beckons us to become honest and speak the truth. Recovery beckons us to face our childhood fears, and not blot them out. Recovery beckons us to open up our most deeply ugly sides and air them in the cool winds of our ten stage recovery.

If we do not, we will face worse consequences. We will grow old and shrivelled before our time. Our eyes will read deadness, our souls depression. We will lose our purpose, and only remember how to drive our cars in reverse – if at all.

But if we honour our child within’s deepest liberating
process, we will grow supple. We will grow confident. We will grow humble. We will grow forceful. We will grow healthy. And we will grow nurturing, because we will tap into the source of the deep child within us all.

The Ten Stages is a studied recovery course. It is a source of reconnection a method of unlearning and a reintroduction to our child within which leads us back to our one true intuitive voice. We start to learn and come out of our protective dysfunctional shell and reclaim our lives. #childwithin#10stages
