At the stages we can go as far as to say that on this planet 'the norm' equals insane. What is it that lies at the root of this insanity? Complete identification with our crazy making thoughts and weird emotions, that is to say, our false self.

Greed, selfishness, exploitation, cruelty, and violence are still all-pervasive on this planet.When we don't recognise them as individual and collective manifestations of an underlying dysfunction or mental illness, we fall into the error of personalising them. We construct a conceptual identity for an individual or group and we say: This is who we are. This is who they are.

All this, is enormously satisfying to the false self. It strengthens the sense of separation between ourself and the other, whose 'otherness' has become manifested to such an extent that we can no longer feel our common humanity, not the rootedness in the one Life that we share with each human being, our common divinity.
Fighting unconsciousness will draw us into unconsciousness ourself. Unconscious, dysfunctional false self behaviour can never be defeated by attacking it. Even if we defeat our opponent, the unconsciousness will simply have moved into us, or the opponent reappears in a new disguise. Whatever we fight, we strengthen, and what we resist, persists.
