We delight in the wondrous child before us in a way we could never delight in the child that remains abandoned within us. As the result our children end up carrying our burden of unresolved traumas and also our unfilled dreams. Yet when our child fails to meet our expectations or asserts its own independent wishes or needs, we react with rage. Our own needs weren’t met, so how dare this child assert its needs? When We have children the norm is child abuse. But the norm defines that as normal.
