Had we attempted this before we held our perpetrators accountable, we would have misjudged what motivated our behaviour and inappropriately pathologised ourselves. We can see that our worst thoughts and actions were only a coded replication of the worst that was done to us. Now it is our job to so study the ten stages. We trace the connection between the abuse we suffered and the abuse we committed—and continue to commit. We connect our defeating adult behaviour, the shadow self to abuse of our childhood. It was never our true self that was hurtful, only our raging child within. With this new perspective, we become willing to understand  all we have harmed and what has harmed us: ourselves,our child within,and others.</span><br />

The Ten Stages is a studied recovery course.
